PIRATES OF THE CARIBBEAN SERIES RETROSPECTIVE - PART 2

Well guys, Pirates of the Caribbean Dead Men Tale No Tales  is upon us this weekend, so to wrap up my retrospective of the Pirates franchise, here are my mini reviews for the third and fourth films,  At World's End and On Stranger Tides  respectively. If you want to read my thoughts on Curse of the Black Pearl and Dead Man's Chest beforehand click here to read Part 1. PIRATES OF THE CARIBBEAN: AT WORLD'S END (2007) - Fun fact about this film! This was the first PG-13 movie I've ever seen in the theater and boy was it an experience I never forgot. There were so many striking images in this movie that locked me into my seat whether it was the intense opening scene involving the piracy hangings or the frightening imagery of seeing Davy Jones and his crew. I remember watching the DVD for this film multiple times thinking it was awesome for all the effects, the action and Captain Jack Sparrow being extremely cool. Safe to say I can now say it's awesome for t...

ALIEN: COVENANT - MOVIE REVIEW

*NO SPOILERS* * Directed by Ridley Scott * Starring Katherine Waterson, Billy Crudup, Michael Fassbender, Danny McBride,  DemiĂĄn Bichir ,  Carmen Ejogo,  Jussie Smollett,  Callie Hernandez,  Amy Seimetz,  Nathaniel Dean,  Alexander England,  Benjamin Rigby,  Uli Latukefu,  Tess Haubrich, and  Lorelei King The Plot: Long story short the crew of the ship called the Covenant receive a distress signal from an unknown planet in the middle of their voyage, so when they arrive at said planet there's an outbreak that leads to aliens forming into fully grown lifeforms and they become the vicious creatures that attempt to destroy every member of the crew.  I'll just leave it there because if I break down anything more about this plot it would really get into spoiler territory. So five years later after the release of Prometheus , Ridley Scott returns to direct what will be the second chapter in a trilogy leadin...

PIRATES OF THE CARIBBEAN SERIES RETROSPECTIVE - PART 1

What's going on, guys? With Pirates of the Caribbean Dead Men Tell No Tales on the verge of releasing I figured it'd be a great time to revisit the previous films in this franchise. Like a few of the Alien movies I covered, the Pirates movies were also those movies I've been meaning to rewatch just to wrap my head around them for it'd been a long time since I last seen them. I watched them and enjoyed them when I was younger, but it was more for the entertainment value rather than the nice breakdown of why I liked them. Since I'm having such a blast with this blog I figured it'd be the perfect time to give you guys my thoughts on each film in time for the release of the fifth film. Let's kick things off about the first film, which was a blessing and a curse...wait for it. PIRATES OF THE CARRIBBEAN: THE CURSE OF THE BLACK PEARL (2003) - *see what I did* I must say for today's standards compared to a lot of blockbuster films I've seen thi...

PROMETHEUS - MOVIE REVIEW

*CONTAINS SPOILERS* *Directed by Ridley Scott *Starring Noomi Rapace, Logan Marshall-Green, Michael Fassbender, Charlize Theron, Idris Elba, Guy Pierce The Plot: A team of explorers and scientists travel to the mysterious planet LV-223 in hopes to find these living beings called Engineers that are responsible for the creation of human beings. So much was surrounding this film when it was released back in June of 2012 as to how Scott would connect it to Alien or if was just an original science fiction film on its own. Once it releases there was a mixture of responses and controversy as to how it left so many questions unanswered and that it wasn't a true blue prequel to the original Alien . This was a film I did miss in theaters and I did get to see it in later months and I remember liking it fine. I didn't really get the whole unanswered questions thing and the ideas of how it's connected and not connected I misunderstood at the time. Now that I can watch thi...

ALIEN: RESURRECTION - MOVIE REVIEW

*CONTAINS SPOILERS* * Directed by Jean-Pierre Jeunet *Starring Sigourney Weaver, Winona Ryder, Ron Perlman, Dominique Pinon, Brad Dourif, Gary Dourdan, Dan Hedaya The Plot: Taking place 200 years after the events of Alien 3,  Ripley (Sigourney Weaver) is now remade as a clone that includes an alien host inside of her in which a group of scientists use the host to create more Xenomorphs, run tests and, heck, even attempting to create a new breed mixed with her human genes and a Xenomorph's. When a crew is sent aboard the science group's space vessel their mission is to kill Ripley, but Xenomorphs manage to escape and the crew with Ripley have to escape themselves and detonate the vessel containing the aliens before it automatically crashes towards Earth. Boy, did I hear so much negativity about this film before I sat down and watched it. Nowadays, we know in some, not all, franchises there's always that one sequel or many sequels that cause a franchise to decl...

ALIEN 3 - MOVIE REVIEW

* Directed by David Fincher * Starring Sigourney Weaver, Charles Dance, Charles S. Dutton, Paul McGann, Brian Glover, Ralph Brown, Danny Webb, Pete Postlethwaite, Lance Henriksen The Plot: Taking place after the events of Aliens , the spacecraft containing Ripley and her allies in carbon sleep detects strange activity aboard, which causes its escape pod to launch and crash land on a human inhabited planet called Firorina "Fury" 161. While Hicks, Newt and Bishop are found dead Ripley survives and finds herself captured by a group in a prison facility where they soon find out a Xenomorph egg was aboard Ripley's spacecraft and caused an alien to let loose in the facility. So now Ripley has to lead this group to fight it and we have our Alien movie.Yay! This film had a lot riding on its shoulders due to the fact that this would be the successor to one of the greatest horror films of all time in Alien and one of the best action films of all time in Aliens . Neither...

GUARDIANS OF THE GALAXY VOL. 2 - MOVIE REVIEW

Disclaimer: *NO SPOILERS* You're safe with yours truly! * Directed by James Gunn * Starring Chris Pratt, Zoe Saldana, Dave Bautista, Bradley Cooper, Vin Diesel, Karen Gillan, Michael Rooker, Kurt Russell, Pom Klementieff, Sylvester Stallone, and Sean Gunn The Plot: Without getting into specifics, the lovable intergalactic band is back as Star Lord/Peter Quill (Chris Pratt) finally comes face to face with his long lost father Ego (Kurt Russell) while avoiding threats along the way from a race of strange gold people and the vicious Ravagers. If you've been following me long enough you know how much I loved the first Guardians of the Galaxy and within the Marvel Cinematic Universe franchise it's my favorite out of any of those films. Ever since the first film ended I could not wait to see these characters again in another adventure and that director James Gunn would once again return to write and direct. I could not wait to finally see it with every trailer I enj...
